I bumped over from Kristin Nelson's blog. A pitch is usually the opening paragraph of a query letter or how you would start a "pitch session" if you had a chance to meet one on one with an agent. There are some great books on the publishing side of the writing business and were helpful to me when starting out. Also think about joining RWA (Romance Writers Association) they have great workshops and support.
